Belgian Band : Big Bayou Bandits playing ” Je suis content d’être Cajun” , with a short live encore of a Jambalaya version.
The Jambalaya is dedicated to ‘Oldolds53 ‘ and ‘Kittielips’, who were uploading this song before.
The French title means : “I’m happy to be Cajun” , as the Cajun music is using both languages English and French ( sometimes together in one song).
You can learn more about history of Cajun and Zydeco music on the net .Or listen other Cajun songs on You Tube from this amazing Belgian Band.See also : ‘ The Mean Mountaineers ‘ for their famous Bluegrass and Hillbilly music.

Hathaway Two Step

Chris Miller accordion–

This tune is actually more of what some people call a “One-Step.” It is played in a slower fashion with lots of swing. I grew up about 20 miles west of Hathaway and went to a few teen dances there. If you blinked you would miss the town…not a town really, just a school.

This tune has over the last 20 years also become known as the “Cajun Freeze” and people (women especially) do a line dance to it.

I used to love to listen to Mr. Bashoot LeBlanc play this…some of his version can be heard here. There are many more variations and “turns” possible and it is a fun tune to improvise with.

Bernadette

Chris Miller–Accordion. www.bayouroots.com. This is a Creole or Zydeco song. This is not “Cajun” music but its close cousin. The French-speaking Black people of Louisiana played and still play this still of music. Zydeco can be played on single row and triple row diatonic “melodeons” and also on piano accordion. Beau Jocque even played some Zydeco on a 5 row Chromatic.

This is a solo version of something I play in my band “Bayou Roots.” I usually play it on piano accordion but also like how it sounds on single row “Cajun” accordion. I wanted to demonstrate a little of how Zydeco is played on the 10 button diatonic and how it sounds different in style from the other things I have posted. Of course it is much easier to spot the style difference whenever there is a full band playing! The band will play in a completely different style than Cajun. But I still think the accordion style is different..more syncopation and more invention with repetitious rhythmic figures.

There are many tunes called “Bernadette.” This rendition is based off of something I have heard Geno Delafose play.
